Heritage issues
The historic environment is generally considered to include:
- listed buildings
- scheduled monuments
- archaeological sites of quality and importance
- registered parks and gardens
- World Heritage Sites and
- conservation areas.
There are specific procedures for the planning and development of listed buildings, conservation areas and scheduled monuments in particular, so it is important to understand the significance and implications of designation. The carrying out of works, signage and permitted development rights, and demolitions can all be affected by designation.
This section relates primarily to heritage protection in England. It is maintained by Marc Timlin of Turley Heritage.
