Making a planning application

Planning permission is not needed for all developments. Permitted development or certain changes of use may not require planning approval. So, the first question to ask is What is the proposal and is it development?

Practitioners need to be familiar with relevant planning policy, both local and national. There are procedures for:

Restrictions on proposals and conditions may apply (e.g. relating to environmental impact assessments).

Local planning authorities are required to respond within certain time limits. They must supply reasons for decisions.
