Infrastructure contract arrangements
With their mega values, technical complexity and long delivery schedules, infrastructure projects differ significantly from standard building projects. Such works therefore require a different approach to developing effective procurement strategies and building robust systems that support and inform the forms of contract selection process.
This section provides a high-level overview of contracting arrangements in infrastructure. It focuses on 4 key themes critical to implementing a robust contracting strategy for major infrastructure projects:
- infrastructure funding models;
- forms of contract and selection criteria;
- analysis of traditional contracting when compared to framework arrangements; and
- introduction to EU legislation and its impact on infrastructure procurement.
This is not exhaustive and should not be used as an alternative to legal advice. Instead, it sets out points of good practice for practitioners involved with infrastructure contracting. Reading it in conjunction with the sources cited in the References is recommended.
