Conflicts of interest for members acting as dispute resolvers, UK, with Scottish addendum

A guidance note concerning the appointment of surveyors as arbitrators, independent experts, mediators, adjudicators and other dispute resolvers.

Based on the law and practice in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, this guidance note provides advice to surveyors who are appointed to resolve disputes, either by the President of RICS ordirectly by the parties to a dispute, on dealing with conflicts of interest and involvements. It also seeks to inform the disputing parties and others involved in the dispute resolution process as to the relevant considerations and the procedures likely to be followed.

The 1st edition guidance note was updated in June 2013 to include a Scottish addendum.

RICS has developed a new global professional statement, Conflicts of interest (see Published on 14 March 2017, it takes effect from 1 January 2018, which sets out high-level principles.
