Biography

Miles is a civil engineer with over 35 years’ experience in construction and property. He is founder of Wessex Advisory Ltd, which works with clients in property, highways, nuclear and rail. Miles is a Fellow of both the ICE and the RICS and an accredited Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA) High Risk Review Team Leader.

Over a 35-year career, Miles has worked in contracting for Balfour Beatty and Lovell Construction; project management as a Director of Clarson Goff; and in property development as the Managing Director of Heritage Property Group. Until 2016 he was Transport for London’s Director of Construction, leading a £5bn programme, which encompassed redevelopments such as Tottenham Court Road, Victoria and Bond Street, the Northern Line Extension and developments including Earls Court, Elephant and Castle and Bloomberg.

Miles led ‘Project 13’, the Infrastructure Client Group initiative to establish new delivery models in infrastructure. The report was published by the Institution of Civil Engineers in 2017 who now lead Project 13 and its growing global community. Miles was the founding Chair of the Infrastructure Risk Group and a founding member of the Infrastructure Client Group. In 2019 he chaired the ICE’s paper on ‘Reducing the gap between estimates and outturns on major infrastructure projects and programmes’ and subsequently presented at a Parliamentary Select Committee.   

He is a Past Master of the Worshipful Company of Paviors, a City Livery Company, and a Trustee of the Ashley Charitable Trust, which focusses on breast cancer.
