Biography

Andrew Thompson is the Senior Specialist Surveyor at Places for People, a major housing association, leading a team of 18 specialist surveyors who investigate housing disrepair. He is the former Course Leader of the Anglia Ruskin University BSc (Hons) in Building Surveying, and is currently undertaking his DProf research investigating housing fitness standards. 

Andrew has a broad qualification background as a chartered building surveyor, chartered environmental surveyor, and chartered safety and health practitioner. These skills assist him in assessing safety design and risk assessment issues. 

He commenced his professional doctorate in housing fitness standards at ARU in January 2019, due to complete in September 2025. Previously he has been a Director, Building & Projects, at Savills UK. He became a qualified Member of RICS in 1999 and achieved Fellowship in 2011. He has a Masters Degree in Environmental Decision Making (via the Safety Health & Environmental SHE pathway). This provided CMIOSH status in 2004 and CEnv in 2006. 

He was elected a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors in 2014. Andrew holds a PgCert in Teaching & Learning and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
