Building defects database - Electric fires

Record details

This is an on-peak electric, radiant ‘bar’ fire fitted into the fireplace opening of a former solid fuel fire.
This is a direct acting, on-peak, electric panel convector heater in a small, refurbished, one bedroom flat. This is the only type of heating in the dwelling and will prove very expensive to use. You will need to warn the client about this. This includes the appliance thermostat and a programmer.
This is an older electric storage radiator and although it was unlikely to contain asbestos, it is a large appliance with unresponsive controls. A house heated with more of these is likely to have high fuel bills and low energy performance rating.
This ‘boiler in a cupboard’ could be defined as a wet central heating system with direct acting electric heater. The electric heater is the long linear appliance on the right.
