Biography

Michael Stewart has over 40 years' experience working in construction, initially as a quantity surveyor for a local authority followed by 20 years in consultancy as a quantity surveyor, a brief spell in the Department of Transport followed by a further 20 years working for a contractor, firstly as their commercial manager and latterly in project delivery.

Qualified as a quantity surveyor, Michael has also attained accreditation to APM membership and is a holder of the NEBOSH Health and Safety qualification.

Michael’s experience covers a variety of contractual arrangements to deliver mainly engineering projects including process plants, structures, roads, railways and utilities. He has a passion for dealing with the unusual in terms of the type of project and the contractual arrangement for doing so.

Over the years Michael started dealing with grass roots quantity surveying issues to advising on complex arrangements for project delivery and dealing with numerous commercial disputes. In dealing with all these issues and working for a contractor who needs to make a margin, Michael has always tried to maintain sight of the bigger picture and focusing on what the client needs in terms of quality, scope and price to the desired timescale.

Since 2021, Michael has reduced his working week and his workload involves supporting the business where there is a demand and looking for continuous improvement in performance.
