Biography

Richard Wood MRICS is Turner & Townsend’s UK Head of Commercial Advisory. He is a commercial director specialising in cost and commercial strategy/commercial advisory across major infrastructure programmes. Richard is currently acting as the Deputy Commercial Director for HS2’s Phase 1 Main Works Civils programme, having previously led the development of a Project 13 enterprise model for HS2 Rail Systems. Richard has also previously developed the commercial model for the Network Rail Southern Integrated Delivery Alliance. He previously led Turner & Townsend’s +100 strong cost and commercial business unit at Heathrow Airport, and has also held roles as the Head of Cost & Controls, Head of Commercial Assurance and Head of Performance Assurance at Crossrail. 

Richard is passionate about driving industry improvement. In 2018, he co-authored the Transport infrastructure efficiency strategy and worked with the Construction Leadership Council on industry performance benchmarking and improvement. In 2021, Richard also co-authored Programmes with purpose in conjunction with the CBI. He sat on the Project 13 Executive Board and the Infrastructure Client Group Management Board throughout 2018/19. Richard was also the lead author of the Driving commercial performance on major programmes and projects information paper, published in 2016, and is active in sharing knowledge across the industry; for example, through Turner & Townsend’s Commercial Performance Study.

Richard was highly commended at the 2015 RICS Young Surveyor of the Year Awards and was shortlisted again in 2016. Richard has also been a finalist for Constructing Excellence’s Young Achiever 2017 awards, Construction News’ Rising Star 2018 award and the ACE’s Emerging Professional of the Year 2018 award.
