Izzard v Field Palmer
Date
[2000]
Citation
1 EGLR 177
Keywords
Negligence in valuations and surveys
Summary
In carrying out a mortgage valuation of a maisonette in a 4-storey block, the defendant valuers failed to point out that the block was built using a system of construction which combined large concrete panels and timber cladding. This omission was held to have been negligent since, by the time the defendants carried out their inspection, the risks (of both structural problems and high maintenance charges) inherent in such construction had been thoroughly documented in the professional literature.
