Summary

The claimant was the owner of a bungalow who brought proceedings against an architect who, prior to the commencement of construction works, had warranted that two particular firms of builders were 'very reliable'. In reliance on this statement, the claimant entered into a contract with one of them. The builders turned out, in the words of the one of the appeal judges, to have 'done almost everything wrong'. The architect was held liable in damages as a result of his negligent misrepresentation.
