Building defects database - Fuseboards

Record details

This older, almost historic fuseboard has a metal case and ceramic carriers to the rewireable fuses. Although all the connecting wires are in PVC, this is clearly below current standards. I would expect this to be a clear CR3 due to the safety risk..
This installation is in the integral garage of a semi-detached house built in the early 1980s. Although the board is fitted with MCBs, they are likely to be retrofit types. These will not provide as much protection as modern consumer units. Four circuits may have been acceptable last century but not now. Some of the wiring and earth bonding will be too small and the new owner of this property will be facing at least a partial upgrade of the system.
