figure 4.9 This relatively new gas meter is in a storage cupboard of a 1950s bungalow. It is supported by an off-cut of a timber joist on the floor with two loosely laid bricks above. These could have been easily knocked over or even removed, leaving the gas meter hanging in mid air. This would strain the malleable lead pipes possibly resulting in a dangerous gas leak.
