Building defects database - Sanitary: waste pipes

Record details

figure 3.26 (a) This shower and hand basin have been installed in the corner of the rear bedroom of a semi detached house. The main bathroom and associated drainage is across the landing, some 5 metres away.
figure 3.27 (b) I was intrigued how the owner (because it was a DIY project) managed to connect the wastes from the shower and wash hand basin into the existing above ground drainage system. Then I spotted the boxing beneath the wash hand basin.
figure 3.28 (c) A quick look out of the window solved the mystery. The combined wastes from both appliances run across the roof of the lean-to conservatory and discharges into the gutter. The combined volumn of the waste water and rain water off this roof could easily cause the guttering to over flow.
