Biography

David Tretton FRICS FIRRV is a chartered surveyor and RICS Registered Valuer with over with over 36 years’ experience in the public property sector. He has extensive experience not only in the field of rating valuation and property taxation but also in government property policy formulation and implementation.

David's key areas include:

  • international valuation professional/ethical standards;
  • valuation of public sector property;
  • strategic, policy and legislative advice in respect of local and capital property taxation.

He is also the technical editor of the RICS Valuation – Professional Standards (the RICS Red Book) and Chair of the RICS UK Public Sector Valuation Group.

David is a visiting professor at the School of the Built Environment, University of Ulster - covering the subjects of rating, property tax and valuation standards.

He is a valuation professional standards and property valuation consultant at the World Bank, providing general independent advice to the Bank’s international team on best-practice valuation methodology, international valuation standards and open market property transfer models - reviewing law and valuation practices relating to real property valuation and allied matters.

David has provided detailed valuation, land acquisition and taxation policy advice to the World Bank in respect of projects in Kenya, Macedonia and the Middle East.
