Building defects database - Carbon monoxide

Record details

Carbon monoxide poisoning sadly causes loss of life every year. Either the by-products of combustion are not drawn out of the room, or there is insufficient oxygen in the room for efficient combustion. Appliances should be regularly serviced but it is not uncommon for occupants to cover air grilles. A carbon monoxide alarm should be fitted in any room that is used wholly or partly as residential accommodation and contains a solid fuel burning appliance.
