Building defects database - Cement fibre: roofing

Record details

While manufacturers will claim that the curvature of cement fibre slates is a transitory problem, this is not true in every case and some roofs have been found to be unsatisfactory several years after construction.
In the centre of the image the cement fibre slate has been affected by star crazing where the nail head securing the slate beneath has been left projecting slightly above the surface of the slate. This can happen when the slater is trying to avoid hammering the fixing nail too deeply with the risk of cracking the slate being fixed.
Premature coating loss from slates caused by retention of de-moulding fluid prior to resin coating.
