Summary

In an action by the purchasers of a flat alleging negligence in the course of a visual inspection and report on the property, the court held that a surveyor who has agreed to make a visual survey:

'... is under no obligation to uncover those parts of the building where the flashings or damp-proof courses should be found to see if they are there and, if they are, whether they are adequate ... [E]vidence that the building is of cavity construction is not itself ground for suspecting that the safeguards essential to that mode of construction have been omitted or botched.'
