Asset management

Infrastructure asset management focuses on maximising the value of infrastructure assets (from railways to bridges to superfast broadband networks) over the course of their life cycle, for the benefit of:

  • asset owners
  • stakeholders and
  • end users.

This section provides an overview of this subject in a manner that is approachable for and meaningful to surveyors, APC students and other practitioners.

It first establishes important background information, such as how the discipline emerged. It then gives an account of asset management as it relates to surveying. Next it moves on to outline the core standards and guidance documents operating in this area, before addressing related methods and the kind of technology that may be used to enhance asset management systems.

This section is maintained by Ian Gordon of Amey.
