SKA Rating

Fit-outs represent more than 10% of the overall construction industry. RICS' SKA rating is an assessment tool designed specifically to encourage good practice in fit-out work and to provide a mechanism for assessing and benchmarking in terms of sustainability.

SKA comprises good-practice measures (GPMs) across biodiversity, energy and CO2, waste, water, pollution, transport, materials, wellbeing and project delivery. Each GPM gives the criteria that needs to be achieved, the rationale behind the measure and guidance on how to achieve it.

The assessment tool currently covers officesretail and higher education. This section summarises the most recent versions of the tool, explaining how assessment works and how this process should be adequately managed. Meanwhile, a series of case studies provide practical insight.

This section is maintained by Kim Karina of Maraq Environments, SKA Rating Technical Committee.
