Conflicts of interest

A guidance note concerning the appointment of surveyors as arbitrators, independent experts, mediators, adjudicators and other dispute resolvers.

Based on the law and practice in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, this guidance note provides advice to surveyors who are appointed to resolve disputes, either by the President of RICS ordirectly by the parties to a dispute, on dealing with conflicts of interest and involvements. It also seeks to inform the disputing parties and others involved in the dispute resolution process as to the relevant considerations and the procedures likely to be followed.

The 1st edition guidance note was updated in June 2013 to include a Scottish addendum.

RICS is currently updating Conflicts of interest. The new professional statement will set out high-level principles across industry specialisms and is expected to publish in Spring 2017.
