RICS property measurement

RICS property measurement, 2nd edition incorporates the International Property Measurement Standards (IPMS). It comprises the following 2 elements:

  1. Professional statement: property measurement
    1. Application of this professional statement.
    2. Technical definitions.
    3. IPMS: Office buildings, as applied under the professional statement.
    4. IPMS: Residential buildings, as applied under the professional statement.
  2. RICS IPMS data standard

This document reflects the IPMS standards (IPMS: Office Buildings and IPMS: Residential) and will be updated over time to comply with other IPMS standards, including industrial, retail and mixed use, as they are published.

Elements of RICS property measurement are mandatory for RICS members and will be subject to regulation by RICS. Other elements are professional best practice and practitioners are strongly advised to follow them.

As of 23 January 2018, Code of measuring practice, 6th edition was reinstated as a standalone global guidance note upon its removal from RICS property measurement, 2nd edition.
