The plaintiff issued a writ and served it by first class post to the last address of the defendant known to the plaintiff. However, three months earlier the defendant had moved without the plaintiff's knowledge. The Court of Appeal considered that 'last known' address meant the address last known to the plaintiff (although the case was in fact decided on a different point).
