Biography

Professor John Edwards works at Edwards Hart Chartered Surveyors and Historic Building Consultants. He is an RICS Certified Historic Building Professional, a Chartered Construction Manager and has a Master’s degree in architectural conservation. He has developed best practice, which includes the Historic building conservation guidance note as co-author and as lead author of BS 7913: 2013: Guide to the Conservation of Historic Buildings. Prior to working at Edwards Hart, John was Assistant Director of Cadw, the Welsh Governments Historic Environment Service and prior to that he worked for English Heritage.

John is also Professor in Practice at the University of Wales Trinity St David and a Director of the Environment Study Centre.

Edwards Hart is a multi-disciplined consultancy practice providing a broad range of services that cover the understanding, operation and sustainability of buildings as well as support services to the sector. This includes the development of project management strategies, risk analysis and mitigation as well as project monitoring, project management and project supervision with quality management. Their clients include private individuals, charitable trusts, sector skills councils, local authorities, commercial organisations, trade federations, professional institutions and other consultants.

In April 2014 the business expanded when John Edwards was appointed as Director responsible for building conservation, sustainability, energy efficiency, projects, standard setting and training. As well as conducting surveys and the investigation of defects and the thermal performance of buildings, Edwards Hart is at the forefront of developing competence and up-skilling in the industry. They have trained numerous individuals from a range of organisations, including the National Trust, Historic England, English Heritage, National Trust Scotland, the Northern Ireland Government as well as consultants and building contractors.
