Asbestos guidance note is now available for online consultation

Wednesday, 6th July 2011

A new RICS draft guidance note 'Asbestos and its implications for members and their clients (3rd edition)' is available for comment on the RICS consultations platform iConsult until 27 July.

Given that Asbestos-related matters are of major significance to surveyors, failure to understand or communicate the risks arising from exposure to the material can have potentially life-threatening consequences; as such, they command priority in the way in which they are addressed.

The general aims of this guidance note are to:

  • give members a basic awareness of the types and uses of asbestos commonly found in buildings and the possible locations of these;
  • explain the risks to health and the possible implications of the presence, removal or treatment of asbestos; and
  • summarise the key regulations, legislation and official guidance that apply.

Members are first asked to read through the brief guidelines on commenting effectively, found at the top of the consultation homepage, before submitting their feedback via the relevant section of iConsult.

Comments submitted via alternative means (including via email or by marked-up PDF) will unfortunately not be accepted.
