New guidance: Development management

The new guidance note details the main phases of development management and provide specific guidance on development appraisal; planning application processes; development finance; and procurement.
The guidance note defines development management as:
'The management of the development process, from the emergence of the initial development concept to the commencement of the tendering process for the construction of the works.'
It details:
- the five key phases of the development management process;

the process for development appraisals in conjunction with the RICS Red Book;

planning and environmental considerations;

development finance;
- the overall aim of the procurement strategy
This guidance note does not address the construction or completion phases of the development management process and considers that developers may be one or more individuals or an entity with responsibility for the overall development management process.
