Summary

This section covers the resolution of service charge disputes, which involves an amount payable by a tenant to a landlord or management company for services under the terms of a lease. Service charges also arise under covenants in freehold transfers, estate management schemes or commonholds. Two separate legal regimes apply in this area - for residential service charges parliament has intervened by statute to regulate both the tenant's liability and the way in which disputes are dealt with, including leasehold valuation tribunals; commercial service charges are resolved by litigation or alternative dispute resolution.

This section is maintained by Mark Loveday of Tanfield Chambers.
