Rectification period

The contract administrator holds the unenviable task of deciding which items are defects as defined in the contract and which must be put right in the rectification period. Usually these defects are minor faults, omissions or items that fail to perform suitably.

If it is genuinely necessary, the contract administrator will issue instructions to the contractor to rectify the work before the schedule of defects is prepared at final completion, at no cost to the employer.

It is a common misconception that the contactor's liability ends once the rectification period expires, although the contractor's right to return to site and remedy the defect does end.
