Environmental and energy infrastructure

This is a general introduction to environmental (‘green’) and energy infrastructure and considers the ways in which these are provided. Green infrastructure is also covered in the related section Sustainable infrastructure.

This text presents a high-level summary of key concepts, pointing readers to references and useful further reading at the end of each sub-topic. It does not drill down into granular detail, but rather cross-refers to a wealth of relevant information depending on your area(s) of interest.

The section begins with green infrastructure, exploring related themes such as climate change, flooding and water supply. It then examines various energy resources (wind energy, nuclear, the National Grid, etc.). It concludes with resilience and ecosystem management.
