ISO 50001 and energy management

Managing energy as efficiently as possible has benefits that not only relate to costs savings, but also to conserving energy and promoting efforts to mitigate the harmful effects of climate change. Released in 2011, implemented in the UK via the British Standard and updated in 2018, ISO 50001 focuses directly on energy management systems.

This section begins by outlining the background to ISO 50001 before setting out the path to accredited certification. It then considers what is involved in developing an energy management system (EnMS) and how energy reviews are conducted, before concluding with ESOS compliance.
